All that you must know about root canal therapy

If you have an infected tooth nerve or infected or inflamed dental pulp, you may suffer from extreme pain and irritation. An ideal way to get away from this pain and suffering is root canal therapy. It helps in restoring your infected tooth. Let’s know more about root canal therapy.

Signs you require root canal therapy

You might require root canal therapy of given below symptoms are faced:

  • Extended and Severe toothache
  • Prolonged teeth sensitivity
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Soreness in the lymph nodes
  • Infected teeth lead to swollen and tender gums
  • Abscess on the gums

Procedure

At first, your endodontist examines your mouth and takes the x-ray of the infected part. A dental dam is placed around the teeth so that the teeth are protected from infection as well as saliva during the treatment. This acts as a tiny protection sheet. The dentist will then drill into your tooth to reach the infected part of the damaged pulp.

With the help of very fine dental instruments, the pulp is removed from the pulp chamber. Space is created in the root canal and then a root canal is filled with a rubber-like material known as “gutta-percha” through an adhesive cement. The tooth opening is sealed with the help of a temporary or permanent filling. Before restoring the tooth, the permanent filling is removed and the crown is placed on the tooth.

After the root canal treatment, you must follow your daily oral care regime so that any further inflammation and infection in the future.
